Spotting Records 1940s/50s/60s/70s/80s

Apologies for the amateurish-1990s nature of these pages, but I my ideas of a vast searchable database are rather expensive to set up online, especially when one has zero coding ability. However, I have added a search box near the top of most pages. Entering a location or loco number into the box should result in a list of all the pages where it can be found. (Apparently, the site exceeds my monthly search limits at times – and if you get an error message towards the end of the month, this will probably be the reason). Apologies, but the monthly costs of adding unlimited searches is beyond my budget.

Each year’s page can be reached from this page – although they are also accessible independently by the urls. (Please scroll down). The logic is quite simple with each year page having almost identical addresses.

I plan to add the years 1984 – 1992 in the future, but this may take a while, due to time constraints in compiling the pages. Also, I have recently purchased some older spotting notes from 1939-41, and will have to widen the scope of the site without changing the web address.

I reckon there are now well over 300,000 individual locomotive records on this site (there are almost 13,000 each from 1956, 1963 and 1981), with more to be added; and because of this I have introduced an index page of locations at –

http://www.spottinglogs.co.uk/index-to-loco-sheds/

It has taken me a while to work out the address of the original photo pages, because it seemed to change when I added these spotting pages – it is…..

https://spottinglogs.co.uk/

If you add “spotting-records-1950s-60s-70s-80s” (without the quotes) after the last backslash in purple above, you should create the direct link to the spotters’ notes home page for bookmark purposes.

I would like to give special thanks to Roger Walker of South Devon, who has typed out many, many pages of notes covering numerous years in order to email them to me. Without his efforts these pages would be much less diverse.

If you have any spotting notes that you don’t mind sharing with a corner of the internet, I do not mind typing them onto these pages – the more the merrier really. Photograph your pages of spotting notes as a jpeg, and/or send me any form of .xls .xlsx .doc .rtf file to

wild_boar_fell@outlook.com

I will transcribe them onto the relevant page(s)
