PRESTON

I have sufficient photos from Preston to create another bespoke image page.

Another ©Norman E Preedy shot. August 4th 1968 was the last official day of scheduled BR steam in the UK and it maybe that Norman had hoped to photograph a few steam engines heading freight or parcels services. Anyhow he did get this shot of D1835 near Preston with an Anglo-Scottish passenger train.

I wonder how many dared think that just 16 years after the end of regular steam services to/from Preston station, this would be the scenario? 370007 makes an evening stop during 1984.

Another set of rare visitors to Preston on September 13th 1982 were the two ‘next generation’ BR DMU prototypes – 210001 and 210002. These seemed to spend much of their brief lives allocated to Reading, but were superseded by the 150/155/156/158 generation of units.

Britannia pacific 70044 ‘Earl Haig’ makes a rather lively departure from Preston during 1966. This locomotive was only months away from withdrawal at the time.
