Cardiff was a good place to see classes 45 & 46 on both passenger and freight trains in the 1970s. Here 46045 is working light engine eastbound in winter 1978, probably to pick up freight train from Tidal Sidings.
46027 tows 47108 towards Canton depot in summer 1977.
46006 has charge of an eastbound coal train in winter 1979.
45136 has another coal train in tow during 1978. It was not unusual to see loaded coal trains running in both directions here.
45075 passes Canton in July 1976. The Cardiff skyline looks very different today.
45067 waits for a green signal to head west in June 1975. The Ford engine plant at Bridgend was often the destination for these van trains.
